Hawaii was still a territory when this map was printed, during an era when states and chambers of commerce
were using brightly colored pictorial maps to promote geographical locations.
Sometimes they painted a lighthearted view of paradise as in this example - Parker Edwards's marvelous representation
of the Hawaiian Islands for the Dole Pineapple Company.
Local flora and native fish provide a border for a map that is, not too surprisingly, full of pineapples and deep
blue ocean.
