This coastal charting of the town of Lahaina (called "Raheina" here)
depicts the location of the major home sites. The year was significant because at this time, Queen Kaahumanu and King Kamehameha II overturned
the final kapus (the ancient Hawaiian system of laws). In the process, they also embraced the Christian religion.
Luis Isadore Duperrey, Chief Hydrographic Surveyor aboard the
French vessel, L'Uranie, produced this superb and historically important copperplate engraving.
