This rare map appeared in the second edition of the SPECTRUM ORBIS TERRARUM, published by Cornelius de Jode. Only two editions of this atlas were ever published, thus accounting for the rarity of de Jode's maps.
Geographically, de Jode draws on the inspiration of Mercator and Ortelius but inserts geographical elements not found in either; in particular the myth of a Northwest Passage is made to appear quite real.
