This important mapping,"Nova Belgica et Anglia Nova", published in Amsterdam by Jan Jansson in 1635, is a classic example of 17th century Dutch cartography. Charting the coast from Cape Fear in North Carolina to Nova Scotia, this map shows little knowledge of New France with the Great Lakes depicted as far apart. Lake Ontario is not named, but a large river flows from it, probably the St. Lawrence. Lake Superior is designated as "Grand Lac."

Embellished with a magnificent cartouche, ships and sea monsters, this chart, with later colour, is criss-crossed with rhumb lines.
