This superb reproduction of a copperplate engraving was originally published by L'Imprimerie de la Republique in ATLAS DU VOYAGE DE LA PEROUSE in 1797. The Comte de la Perouse, explorer, navigator and hydrographer, was sent by Louis XVI on an expedition to rival that of the English Capt. James Cook.
