SDUK U.S. Cities Map - "Map Of Chicago"

Published by Walter Conley & D.E. Stelzer 1833

Originally published by Walter Conley and D.E. Stelzer (Lahaina Printsellers Ltd.) 38 years before Mrs. O'Leary's cow knocked over the lantern that set Chicago ablaze, this fascinating map compiled from data provided by the original map of Chicago about 1833 records the resident population of only 350 souls. In those days the streets comprised of Wells, LaSalle, Clark, Dearborn, and State intersected by Madison, Washington, Lake and Southwater. That was it! This beautifully patinated map (the original was sealed with a rich honey varnish) is loaded with fascinating geographic, historical and demographic details. This map is embellished with a dramatic cartouche depicting indians quietly observing a dory load of trappers returning to Fort Dearborn.
