"New York City and Environs" Published by Westermann & Co., 1860 This superb reproduction of the original "New York City and Environs" was compiled from U. S. Government Coastal Surveys, engraved by H. Lindenkohl and published by Westermann & Co., New York, circa 1860. The War Between the States began in 1861, and the extremely important mapping of the coasts of the nation was abandoned as officers and troops were called into the conflict. Maps with greater detail than this fine work would be many years in the making as a result of the Civil War. The fine detail of this mapping causes it to be sought after by serious collectors.
