Captain James Cook is generally credited with having "discovered" Hawaii,
which he christened the Sandwich Islands, in 1778. However,
since there were already some half million Polynesians living
there at the time, it may actually be more accurate to describe Cook as Hawaii's "first tourist." (cont'd...)
