What is a Giclée?A Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay) is a reproduction in which a digital file of an original painting or engraving is printed by a special ink jet printer that sprays ink directly on to the substrate. (The word Giclée literally means "to spray" in French.) These prints can very closely match the original piece of art because of the millions of possible hues of inks.
Our Giclée production process reflects the long-standing European tradition of rendering one image at a time. The first step in creating a museum quality edition involves capturing the image using state-of-the-art, high resolution, digital scanning equipment. Either an original or a transparency can be scanned, and a sophisticated color management system allows us to utilize an extremely broad color palette.
While the process has a digital aspect, the skill of the craftsmen who define and proof the color is of utmost importance. Proofing a scan is an essential part of the process in creating an exquisite Giclée reproduction.
The essence of a scanned image cannot be properly evaluated until it is printed on a medium of either canvas or paper. Our reproductions are printed exclusively on premium canvas of superior quality.
Our printer produces an apparent resolution of 1800 dots per inch, while spraying over 1 million droplets per second onto the chosen substrate. There are no screens used in this method of reproduction; therefore there is a smoother look to the final print. The precision of the printing, along with the depth of color range, captures the subtleties and nuances of an original image, whether it was created from watercolors, oils, or acrylic.
At every stage of the Giclée production process, we employ the most exacting standards possible. This assures that the reproduction is of the highest quality and nearly indistinguishable from the original.

Can I order special sizes?
We can produce your order in proportionate sizes up to 50 inches for the narrow dimension. The limiting factor may become color correction and color fill for extremely large print sizes, since digital technology has some, though minor, limitations in extrapolating relatively small images into very large prints.
Whether you want a smaller or larger print size, you can calculate the price by multiplying length x width x $.50. This will give you the dollar value of your proposed-sized print.

Does premium canvas require special handling and/or mounting?
No. Premium canvas can either be mounted on stretcher bars or dry-mounted on foam core.

What about framing?
Premium canvas can be framed exactly as one would frame an oil painting (without glass). Lysonic paper should be framed the same as any original or antique print (with glass).

How long does it usually take to arrive? We use USPS Priority or First Class, which are essentially the same service. Our customers tell us that except for normal delays during the Christmas holiday rush (possibly 2-4 weeks), orders to the Continental U.S. take 3-7 days to arrive. International orders may take up to 30 days, and those time frames are very dependant upon the country of destination.
For rush orders, we can quote the additional cost to ship USPS Express Mail or Fedex Overnight. (Please note that while both these services are faster, neither will arrive overnight.)
