Frederick W. Frohawk was born in Norfolk, England in 1861. He began his lengthy and successful career at the age of 20 when he was appointed zoological artist to The Field, a very important naturalist magazine of the time.
A talented and prolific artist, Frohawk worked in a variety of media including oils, watercolors, and pencils, and he was also an accomplished lithographer and wood engraver. His knowledge of bird biology is reflected in his lifelike paintings and illustrations which were published in a number of books and journals. Frohawk died in 1946, but his work continues to be popular with discerning collectors today.
We're pleased to reproduce some of his finest specimens here.
