By the mid to late 1940's, World War II had finally ended, and people were once again ready to resume more entertaining and frivolous pursuits, such as vacation travel to the exotic tropics. As commercial airlines took over the Hawaiian market once dominated by cruise ships, the trip itself became much shorter and more affordable. What had once been the sole domain of the rich and privileged soon was within reach of the average middle-class citizen.

One popular airline put out a series of posters promoting travel to the magnificent islands, highlighting many of the typical Hawaiian images such as hula girls, sun and sand, swaying palms, and surfing.

Ricardo San Pedro's masterful reproduction of this vintage airline poster truly captures the mood of those long-ago times. As you gaze at his vibrantly colored image, you can almost smell the tropical flowers, hear the gently rolling surf, and feel the warm trade winds upon your skin.
