After having spent the summer months in the Arctic waters of the north, the humpback whales migrate south and return to Maui every winter. The scientists claim that it's all tied into the breeding ritual, but personally, I think they just want to escape to the tropics and work on their tans, the same as the rest of us do!

The whales can be spotted between late November and mid-April, with February and March being the best months for whale watching.
