Kaneohe Bay is located off the northeastern coast of Oahu, on the windward side of the island where the tradewinds blow and the land is lush green. Framed by the steep cliffs of Nuuanu Pali, part of the majestic Ko'olau mountain range, the bay features a barrier coral reef, fishponds, and sandbar.

The beautiful water was considered sacred by Native Hawaiians who farmed the taro plant in the bay's rich pond terraces. King Kamehameha and other ali'i spent much time fishing and swimming here.
