"California, with Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona"
Published by Johnson and Ward, 1863-64
Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2013
This reproduction of the rare fifth state map of "California, with Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona" was originally published by Johnson and Ward of New York in 1863-64, as part of Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas, which was issued yearly from 1860 through 1874.
The map details the tracks of early explorers, the Emigrant Road, the Pony Express route, and the proposed route for the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad.
It is also interesting to note the Colorado gold mines of Arizona, as well as the many American tribal locations.
In the early 1860s, Texas made several attempts to occupy Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico for the Confederacy, which led to frequent clashes with these Native American tribes of the west.
