"Plan of Port St. Francisco"
Published by L'Imprimerie de la Republique, 1779
This superb reproduction of the original copperplate engraving was first published in Atlas du Voyage de la Perouse in Paris in 1779. The Comte de la Perouse, explorer, navigator and hydrographer, was sent by Louis XVI on an expedition to rival that of the English Capt. James Cook.
This early chart of the harbor of San Francisco shows compass headings, soundings, anchorages and a listing of 21 key locations of this thriving Spanish city, including the Presidio.
