"California, Territories of New Mexico and Utah"
Published by Johnson and Ward, 1860-61
Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016
This reproduction of the rare second state map of "California, Territories of New Mexico and Utah" was originally published by Johnson and Ward of New York in 1860-61, as part of Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas, which was issued yearly from 1860 through 1874.
In it, the California boundary is incorrectly marked, and the line separating the Arizona region from New Mexico is missing. In addition, the Nebraska territory is portrayed as extending into the newly formed Colorado territory.
Despite, or perhaps because of, these inaccuracies, it is still a captivating and fascinating frontier map from a pivotal time in American history.
