"Planiglobie Terrestris"

Published by Heirs of Homann, 1746

This superlative facsimile of the highly decorative map of the world in hemispheres, one of a five map suite by Johann Baptist Homann, engraver and geographer to the Kaiser of the Holy Roman Empire and member of the Prussian Royal Academy of Science, is a classic example from the school of German cartographers.

This reproduction of the original beautifully-colored map, published by Homann's heirs circa 1746, is embellished with engravings of natural phenomena borrowed heavily from a similar map by Adam Zuerner.

The two main hemispheres are cartographically up-to-date. The text at the top, within the title cartouches, is commentary on the natural phenomena depicted.
