"Insulae Americanae In Oceano Septentrionali, cum Terris adiacentibus"

Published by Willem Blaeu, 1634

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This reproduction of the beautifully hand-colored copperplate engraving of "Insulae Americanae In Oceano Septentrionali, cum Terris adiacentibus" was originally published in 1634 by Willem Blaeu in his "Atlas Major."

Criss crossed with rhumb lines (any of the 32 points of a mariner's compass), it shows the various coastal ports on the Gulf Coast and Florida, stretching all the way up to Chesapeake Bay.

This intaglio is embellished with an ornate title cartouche, complete with cherubs and reptiles, as well as a mile scale showing both the German and the Spanish miles.

Typical of Blaeu, the seas are decorated with his signature sailing ships and compass roses.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
