"Switzerland" Published by John Tallis, 1851 Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016 This superb reproduction of the original hand-colored steel plate engraving, "Switzerland", was first published by the noted English cartographer, John Tallis, in his Illustrated Atlas and serves as a fine example of mid-19th century pictorial mapmaking. Generally considered to be the last of the great pictorial mapmakers, Tallis's maps are eagerly sought after by collectors. Of particular interest here are the exquisite vignettes of William Tell Shooting at the Apple, Bern, Castle of Chillon, The Cap on the Pole, Tyrolese, and Chamois Hunters. All are examples of the artistic quality no longer available in contemporary cartographical art. We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
