Product description:

Why just call it a reef triggerfish when the name humuhumunukunukuapua'a is so much more fun to say? The Hawaiian state fish is world famous, if for nothing other than its great name!

The name means "fish that sounds like a pig" in Hawaiian, and when brought out of the water, it does indeed make grunting noises. Like other triggerfish, the forward spine of its dorsal fin is strong and sharp, and can be locked in a rigid position for defense.

Here, a lone humu takes time out from his official state duties to strike a pose for the underwater lens of photographer Randy Miller.

Lahaina Printsellers custom-prints this image on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio, using only the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years.
