Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016
This reproduction of the original wood block engraving entitled "Maui, Lanai, Molokai and Kahoolawe" was first published in 1899 by Bormay & Co. of New York and then widely distributed in Harper's Weekly magazine. It was based upon the survey performed by S.M. Kanakanui with annotations by Caspar Whitney.
Of interest are the textual details regarding the geographical conditions of the land including agricultural information about sugarcane and coffee planting. Also of note are the references to the pioneer plantations, rainfall, grazing animals and government lands.
We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
