"Map of the Hawaiian Islands"

Published by Dole Pineapple Company, Ltd., 1950

Reissued by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2000

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This promotional map was created for the Dole Pineapple Company in 1950 and reissued by us in the year 2000 as a millenium commemorative. The map features stylized artwork by Joseph Feher, representing scenes of Hawaiian life, tropical fish and sea creatures, ships, volcanoes, and tourists.

The original was issued during an era when pineapple was Hawaii's second largest industry (after sugar), and just before the dawn of her tourist industry boom of the late fifties and early sixties.

James Dole (cousin of Stanford Dole, the first governor of the Territory of Hawaii) formed the Hawaiian Pineapple Company in 1901, later renamed Dole Foods. Today, the company remains one of the world's largest processors of fruit and vegetables.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
