"The Dole Map of the Hawaiian Islands, U.S.A."

Published by Hawaiian Pineapple Company, Ltd., 1937

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This promotional map was created for the Dole Pineapple Company by Parker Edwards. Done in a whimsical style, featuring depictions of prop planes, sailboats, whales and canoes, it's a charming look back at early efforts to attract tourists to the Hawaiian Islands.

Hawaii was still a territory when this map was printed, during an era when states and chambers of commerce were using brightly colored pictorial maps to promote geographical locations.

It describes itself as "a descriptive pictorial of the history, transportation, industries and geography of the Territory of Hawaii, U.S.A."

Local flora and native fish provide a border for a map that is, not too surprisingly, full of pineapples and deep blue ocean.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
