"Map of Hawaii 1841"

Published by Lahaina Printsellers, 2005

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

Using the map of the Big Island of Hawaii from Wilkes's 1841 "Map of Hawaiian Group or Sandwich Islands" as his source, Dave Shively improved and enhanced it by adding the elevations of Moana Loa and Moana Kea, as well as giving it the rich color of an antique piece.

Along the bottom, he placed a decorative vignette of the engraving "Village of Kaawaloa on Kealakekua Bay" which was originally published in Hiram Bingham's 1847 memoir, A Residence of Twenty-One Years in the Sandwich Islands.

Kealakekua Bay is the spot where Captain James Cook met his untimely death on February 14, 1779.

Lahaina Printsellers custom-prints this image on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using only the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years.
