"Hawaiian Islands"

Published by J. Martin Miller, 1899

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This superb reproduction of an original steelplate engraving was first published in 1899 by J. Martin Miller in Chicago, Illinois.

His highly-detailed charting of the Hawaiian Islands was significant because it represents an early attempt at color printing. (We feature it here in a tan version.) It is also one of the first published maps showing the Hawaiian Islands as a territory of the United States.

The two insets provide an in-depth examination of Pearl Harbor and Honolulu, as well as the entire chain of northwestern Hawaiian Islands. The map also offers the distances between the islands and their relationship to various points in the Pacific Rim.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
