"Hawaiian Archipelago"

Published by Rand, McNally & Co., 1935

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This superb reproduction of an interesting map of the Hawaiian Archipelago with early- printed color was published in 1935 by Rand, McNally & Co.

The map shows the entire Hawaiian island chain from the Big Island (Hawaii island) to Midway and Cure (Kure) Atolls. The Hawaiian Islands span 1200 miles across the Pacific, covering a latitudinal expanse equaling the distance from the Cayman Islands to Tampa, Florida.

While this map appeared shortly before the outbreak of World War II, major battles were soon to be waged at Pearl Harbor on Oahu and Midway Atoll.

As of 2006, the outer islands were designated as Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Nearly 140,000 square miles in size, the monument is the largest protected marine area in the world, and is home to millions of seabirds, an incredible diversity of coral, and the highly-endangered Hawaiian monk seal. The islands are also important to Native Hawaiians as an integral part of their culture, history and religion.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
