"North Pacific Ocean, Maui County"

Published by U.S. Hydrographic Survey, 1938

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This superior reproduction of an early charting of the waters of the County of Maui was originally published for the United States Hydrographic Survey in 1938.

This most interesting map indicates the depth of the ocean in fathoms and the elevations of points of interest on each island in feet. The shallow ocean depths revealed here have led geologists to conclude that these four islands were once joined together, during the last ice age 16,000 years ago.

This particular chart represents the best data available on Hawaiian ocean depths at the brink of World War II.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
