"The Hawaiian Islands" Published by E.W. Bouve, 1893 Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016 This superb reproduction of the original copperplate engraving entitled "The Hawaiian Islands" was published in Boston by E.W. Bouve, circa 1893. At the time, the Hawaiian Islands were very prominent in the New England whaling industry with Lahaina, Maui, being a main port-of-call for the resupplying of whaling ships. Hawaii subsequently became a major focus of New England missionary activity as reports of south sea savagery and licentiousness returned with the early whalers from the Pacific. As a result, by the mid nineteenth century, New Englanders and their cultural values were having a strong influence on the society of Hawaii. An inset of Lahaina completes the presentation. We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
