Mahi Mahi by Nancy Duell
The mahi mahi is a surface-dwelling ray-finned fish found in offshore temperate, tropical and subtropical waters worldwide.
Also known as dolphin-fish, they have compressed bodies and long dorsal fins extending nearly the entire length of their bodies, and they are distinguished by dazzling colors: golden on the sides, and bright blues and greens on the sides and back.
Mahi mahi are among the fastest-growing fish, and they spawn in warm ocean currents throughout much of the year.
The name mahi mahi means "very strong" in Hawaiian.
Here, this popular fish is caught by the brush of talented artist Nancy Duell Veranth.
