Devitt and Moore was a British shipping company formed by Thomas Henry Devitt and Joseph Moore in 1836. After purchasing their first two full-rigged ships from Duncan Dunbar in 1863, they entered the passenger and cargo trade to Australia,  managing and owning many clipper ships through the years.

These various ships carried passengers, wool, copper and general cargo between Great Britain and Australia.

Over the next 55 years, until the end of the First World War when they finally conceded to the competition from the steamships, Devitt and Moore's  fleet comprised 29 square-rigged sailing ships and two steamships.

They owned the Hesperus from 1890-1899.

In this image, talented artist Efren Erese features the distinguished ship as she plies the rough ocean waves.
