"China and Birmah"

Published by John Tallis, 1851

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

J.B. Allen engraved the steel plate from which this map was printed. It was subsequently published in the 1851 edition of John Tallis's Illustrated Atlas, one year after the China Revolt and three years before the Second Burmese War. "China and Birmah" (sic) is a fine example of mid-19th century pictorial mapmaking. Of particular interest are the exquisite vignettes featuring Hong Kong, Chinese Soldiers, and British Factories, Canton.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
