This reproduction of "Johnson's New Military Map of the United States Showing the Forts, Military Posts & c. with Enlarged Plans of Southern Harbors" was originally published by Johnson and Ward of New York. It appeared in Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas in 1862.
Compiled, drawn and engraved under the supervision of J. H. Colton and A. J. Johnson from War Department data, this Civil War era map includes the fortifications, military posts, cities, towns, mountainous regions and rivers as they existed in 1862.
Insets of the southern harbors of particular military importance complete this map. Included are Baltimore, Washington, Charleston and New Orleans, among others.
