"Hemisphaerium Coeli Australe"
Published by Johann Baptist Homann, 1747
Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016
This superb reproduction of "Hemisphaerium Coeli Australe" was first published by cartographer Johann Homann in 1747, based on the work of prominent astronomer Johann Doppelmayr. Homann and Doppelmayr were frequent collaborators, producing celestial and astronomical charts for atlases published by Homann and issued under various titles.
Depicted here are the constellations of the southern hemisphere, including the familiar Southern Cross, but also showing lesser known ones such as the Toucan and the Southern Triangle.
Information on the twelve zodiac signs appears in the margins, while each corner features a vignette of one of the four major European observatories, located in Greenwich, Kassel, Copenhagen and Berlin.
