"The Carribee or Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and the Isle of Porto Rico"

Published by Laurie & Whittle, 1794

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This detailed reproduction of the colorful engraving, "The Carribee or Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and the Isle of Porto Rico", was originally published in London in 1794 by Laurie and Whittle in the West India Atlas. The map was authored by Thomas Jefferys, geographer to the King of England.

Shown is the eastern part of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the islands of the Carribean, named Leeward Islands by the English, and named the Carribee Islands or Antilles and Windward Islands by the French, Spanish and Dutch.

The Virgin Islands are situated at the crossroads of the Caribbean Sea and have a colorful history as a refuge for pirates during the "Golden Age of Piracy."

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
