This excellent reproduction of the hand-colored lithograph of "Persia, Arabia, & c." was originally published in New York in 1856 by J.H. Colton and Co. for their Atlas of the World.
Today, the countries covered in the map are known as Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, and the Arabian peninsula, consisting of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, and Oman.
The map details desert trading routes and centers, and it shows the Middle East before the discovery of oil and the political changes of the last hundred years.
