This reproduction of the hand-colored engraving of "Persia (Iran), Afghanistan & Baluchistan" was originally published in New York in 1897 by The Century Co. for their The Century Atlas of the World. The map was expertly engraved by Matthews-Northrup Co. of Buffalo.
Today, Persia is known as Iran, while Baluchistan was the former name of the western part of Pakistan.
On the lower left is a chart giving the translations of some terms used within. On the lower right are notes on the size and political organization of the countries depicted. Persia is described as an independent country ruled by the shah, Afghanistan as ruled by an ameer (emir), and Baluchistan as partly under British administration and ruled by a khan.
