"Nova et Accuratissima Totius Terrarum Orbis Tabula"
Published by Blaeu, 1664
Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016
Originally prepared by Blaeu for his Atlas Maior in 1662, this important map was also included in contemporary composite sea atlases of the period.
Unlike Blaeu's first world map which appeared in the majority of his atlases and was done on the Mercator projection, here he utilized a double hemisphere format and depicts California as an island.
The map includes celestial figures seated among the clouds, and features representations of the four seasons below, with each figure seated in a chariot drawn by beasts and birds.
We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
