"Plan of New York"
Published by Mitchell, 1860
This wonderful reproduction of the original ornately-bordered and historical map entitled "Plan of New York & Etc." was published by famed American map maker S. Augustus Mitchell of Philadelphia, circa 1860.
A superb example of engraving, this map combined a subtle blend of hand coloring and block printing to create a distinctive look which adds to the map's appeal. Starting in Philadelphia in 1831, Mitchell built a map-publishing empire which, when inherited by his son, employed some 250 people.
