"Chart of the Sandwich Isles"

Published by Alexander Hogg, 1784-86

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

Captain James Cook created this historically important first charting of the Hawaiian Islands on his third and final Pacific voyage. Cook was assisted in his efforts by William Bligh, and this map was published in Anderson's Voyages of Captain Cook by Alexander Hogg in London 1784-86.

It shows the tracks of the Resolution and the Discovery, following Captain Cook's discovery of the Sandwich Islands in January 1778. The inset depicts Kealakekua Bay where the great navigator met his untimely demise on February 14, 1779.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
