"Carte des Isles Sandwich"

Published by Rigobert Bonne, 1785

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This reproduction of a beautifully-colored and finely-engraved chart of the Sandwich Islands was published by Rigobert Bonne in Paris in 1785. This chart, which is faithful to Cook's original charting, shows the inset of Kealakekua Bay where the great navigator met his untimely death on February 14, 1779.

A large compass rose embellishes the map.

Rigobert Bonne (1727-1795) was the official French Engineer and Marine Cartographer of the period.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
