"Carte des Iles Sandwich"

Published by L'Imprimerie de la Republique, 1799

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This excellent reproduction of the original copperplate engraving of "Carte des Iles Sandwich" was first published in 1779 in Voyage de Vancouver, and this French version is regarded by many as artistically superior to the English edition published a year earlier.

George Vancouver first visited the Sandwich Islands as a young officer under Captain James Cook, and this chart is from Vancouver's visits in 1792-94. Of special interest are the insets of the Gallapagos Islands and the Cocos Islands.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
