"View of Benicia from the West"

Published by United States Senate, 1856

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This superb reproduction of an original stone lithograph, colored by a later hand, was published in 1856 by the U.S. Senate. It was the result of a survey done by the U. S. Pacific Railroad to explore and determine the most practical route for a railroad running from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean.

The image shows the military post at Benicia, California as it appeared in those days. In this view, some men cast their fishing lines at the water's edge while the Army post lies in the background.

We custom-print this facsimile on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
