"Americae Nova Tabula"

Published by Blaeu, 1640

Willem Blaeu originally published this beautifully hand colored map in his Atlas Major in 1640. It is a vividly decorated and highly accurate map of the Americas, correctly identifying California as a peninsula.

This reproduction depicts the exquisitely engraved borders that show miniature views of the principal cities and paired figures from different countries. Blaeu also decorates his oceans with his signature ships and sea monsters.
