"Americae Descrip" Published by Hondius, 1607 Joducus Hondius began publishing his Atlas Minor in 1607. It was a moderately sized atlas, smaller than the cumbersome folio atlases of his day. This reproduction map featured early outline color, and the Great Southern Continent appeared as Terra Australis. Surprisingly, it also depicted an accurate portrayal of South America (without the bulge that appeared in earlier maps by Mercator).
