"Chart of the Sandwich Islands"

Published by Royal Geographical Society, 1868

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This map, published by the Royal Geographical Society in 1868, is a finely-wrought example of mid-19th century English cartography. Apparently published to accompany the paper by the Bishop of Honolulu, this map is very similar to the one published in Manley Hopkins book Hawaii, a decade earlier.

Interestingly, this is one of the last published maps to feature Captain Cook's appellation "The Sandwich Islands" for the Hawaiian Islands.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
