"Constellationi Celesti"

Published by P. Vicenzo Maria Coronelli, 1693

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This celestial image of the constellations, as viewed from the North Pole, was originally published by P. Vicenzo Maria Coronelli in Venice in 1693.

Wonderfully illustrated, this engraving is typical of late 17th century hand-colored renderings of the constellations, replete with characters assigned to them.

Coronelli, a Franciscan monk, is credited with founding the first society of geographers, the Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti. Eventually becoming the Father General of the Franciscan order, he also held the position of Cosmographer of the Republic of Venice.

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
