This excellent reproduction of the hand-colored copperplate engraving of "Het Beloofde Landt Canaan door wandelt van onsen Salichmaecker Iesu Christo, neffens syne Apostelen" was originally published in Amsterdam in 1730 by brothers Pieter and Jacob Keur, famed for their Bibles and Biblical maps. It was authored and engraved by Daniel Stoopendaal.
The map depicts the ancient land of Canaan at the time of Jesus Christ. Today, this area takes in the countries of Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and the western parts of Jordan and Syria.
At the bottom, a decorative title cartouche is surrounded by vignettes depicting the life of Christ, including the Nativity on the left and the crucifixion at Calvary on the right. In the center is the Resurrection, as Christ startles the Roman guards and ascends into Heaven.
