This excellent reproduction of the hand-colored steelplate engraving of "Map of the Principal Countries of the Ancient World extending from the Alps to the Southern Frontier of Egypt and from Carthage to Persepolis" was originally published in Edinburgh in 1844 by Adam and Charles Black for their General Atlas of the World, authored by Sidney Hall and cartographer William Hughes.
The map depicts the area extending from Italy and Carthage to Ethiopia and north beyond the Balkans.
Of special interest are the two insets, with one showing the Roman empire and the other illustrating the Persian empire.
We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years.
