"California, Territories of New Mexico and Utah"

Published by Johnson and Ward, 1861

Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016

This reproduction of the rare third state map of "California, Territories of New Mexico and Utah" was originally published by Johnson and Ward of New York in 1861, as part of Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas, which was issued yearly from 1860 through 1874.

This fascinating frontier map includes many descriptions of the country and the Indians, as well as the tracks of early explorers, the Emigrant Road, the Pony Express route and the proposed route of the Atlantic and Pacific railroads.

Of special interest is the misspelling of Arizona as "Arrizona."

We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
