"California, with Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona"
Published by Johnson and Ward, 1864
Printed by Lahaina Printsellers, Ltd., 2016
This reproduction of the rare sixth state map of "California, with Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona" was originally published by Johnson and Ward of New York in 1864, as part of Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas, which was issued yearly from 1860 through 1874.
Although Nevada achieved statehood in 1864, its borders, as we know them today, would not be formulated for another two years.
In this historically significant map, it's also interesting to note the evolving formation of the counties and the decline in territory marked as Native American lands.
We custom-print this facsimile map on waterproof canvas in our Lahaina studio using the finest archival inks, which are tested and guaranteed not to fade or shift under normal circumstances for over 100 years. Modern printing techniques allow us to improve and enhance the historical subject matter, even as we're careful to preserve and maintain its historical and artistic integrity.
